A concealed carrier in South Carolina shot and killed a man attempting to rob him Sunday night.

Richland County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Lt. Curtis Wilson said that the would-be victim was walking on the intersection of Townsend and Hutchinson Streets in Columbia when he was approached by a person later identified as 18-year-old Shyheem Gallishaw.

As WACH notes, Gallishaw attempted to rob the unidentified victim, who proceeded to draw his concealed handgun and open fire. It is being reported that Gallishaw was shot once in the upper body.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts confirmed that Gallishaw died on the scene just after midnight on Monday morning due to complications from his single gunshot wound.

According to WACH, Lt. Wilson said no charges would be filed against the concealed carry permit holder, as it has been determined that he was acting in self-defense when he opened fire. Given what is known about the incident thus far, it appears this was the right call.
