The Savage MSR is coming, folks. It’s time to get excited. The Savage MSR represents Savage Arms’ first-ever foray into the AR market. There are four guns in the MSR, or “Modern Savage Rifle,” family: the MSR 10 Hunter and Long Range (AR-10 platform) in .308 Win. or 6.5 Creedmoor, and MSR 15 Recon and Patrol (AR-15 platform) in .223 Rem.  Here’s how these four offerings break down.

The Savage MSR 10 Hunter is a compact sporting platform that features a 16 1/8-inch Savage barrel (or 18 inches for 6.5 Creedmoor) with a 5R rifling with a tough Melonite QPQ finish, a BLACKHAWK! AR Blaze trigger, a free-float fore-end, a custom-forged lower receiver and a BLACKHAWK! adjustable buttstock and pistol grip. MSRP is $1,481.

If you combine all the bells and whistles of a Savage precision rifle into a single platform, you get the Savage MSR 10 Long Range, the company says. Like the MSR 10 Hunter, it’s chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor or 308 Win. It’s built on a compact frame with a non-reciprocating charging handle. The MSR 10 Long Range features a BLACKHAWK! AR Blaze two-stage target trigger, a Magpul PRS adjustable buttstock, a fluted heavy barrel with 5R rifling and a Melonite QPQ finish, a custom forged upper/lower and much more. MSRP is $2,284.

Serious shooters would be wise to check out the Savage MSR 15 Recon. Chambered in .223 Rem., it includes a BLACKHAWK! AR Blaze trigger, free-float handguard and upgraded Savage barrel with a 223 Wylde target chamber. Meanwhile, the 16 1/8-inch barrel with 5R rifling and a Melonite QPQ finish help to ensure this rifle performs reliably in harsh conditions. The Recon also boasts a BLACKHAWK! KNOXX AR Pistol Grip and AXIOM Carbine Stock, as well as a custom-forged lower receiver and a BLACKHAWK! adjustable buttstock. MSRP is $999.

Finally, the Savage MSR 15 Patrol rifle in .223 Rem. features a Mil-spec upper and lower receiver, a 16 1/8-inch barrel with a 223 Wylde target chamber, 5R rifling and a Melonite QPQ finish, a Mil-spec trigger, a BLACKHAWK! handguard, pistol grip and adjustable buttstock, an AXIOM Carbine Stock, a custom A-frame gas block front sight and a BLACKHAWK! flip-up rear sight. With a MSRP of $852, it’s the most affordable rifle in the line.

The Savage MSR line is set to roll out around SHOT Show, which takes place Jan. 17-20 at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas.
