TrackingPoint came on the scene a few years ago with its “Precision-Guided Firearms.” In essence, the large scope on top of the rifle turns it into a “smart rifle.” The scope calculates the distance to your target, wind speed, direction, angle, cant and a host of other variables. When you’re ready to fire, you simply designate your target, and the scope will lock the trigger until your barrel is pointed at exactly the right place, taking into account the windage and elevation, etc. In the moment you’re exactly on target, the trigger unlocks and you can make your shot. TrackingPoint started with a few bolt-action rifles and then ventured into a collaboration with Remington, producing a few AR-platform rifles along the way.

Now TrackingPoint has gone back to its roots in 2015, producing two ultra-high-tech, match-grade, “Precision-Guided,” bolt-action rifles. The first new rifle is the 338TP, chambered in .338 Lapua Magnum. The company has nicknamed it “the Mile Maker” for its unsurpassed range—it can hit a target 1 mile away that is moving as fast as 20 miles per hour. This is also the first Precision-Guided Firearm TrackingPoint has designed from a clean sheet of paper, including the action, chambering, caliber, brass, projectile, barrel, primer, powder and chassis.

The second new offering is a .308 Winchester rifle built for taking big game and hardened targets. It’s also lightweight and costs significantly less than other TrackingPoint rifles. It has a range of 0.5 miles.
