The revolver market thrives despite critics’ opinions. Many people appreciate the reliability and ease of use that revolvers offer. One of the most respected names in this space is Taurus, which has just launched the new Taurus 850 for 2025.

Taurus 850 – .38 Spl. Lightweight Fighter

Weighing in as a lightweight fighter, the Taurus 850 is chambered exclusively in .38 Spl. While some once viewed this round as less effective, advancements in manufacturing and bullet design have transformed its reputation. The Taurus 850 adopts the configuration of many of Taurus’s larger revolvers, featuring a double-action-only design with a hammer that remains shrouded within the frame. Its swing-out cylinder accommodates a five-shot capacity. Additionally, the barrel boasts a full underlug, and the sights come in low-profile with a simple rear notch on the frame’s top strap and a ramped front blade that you can replace with aftermarket options. The wraparound textured rubber grips ensure a firm hold.

Four Models

Taurus offers the 850 in four different configurations. The carbon steel models sport a matte black finish, while the stainless steel versions showcase a matte natural finish. You can choose between a 2″ or 3″ barrel for either model. Its dimensions measure 4.59″ tall and 7.66″ long (one inch longer for the 3″-barrel variant), and the all-steel construction means the 2″-barrel 850 weighs 22.75 oz., while the 3″ models tip the scales at 24 oz. The MSRP stands at $425 for the black-finished models and $440 for those in stainless steel.
