Can Cannon Approved By ATF After Design Is Modified

X Products Can Cannon AR Upper

April 19, 2016

After several months of deliberation, the Can Cannon from X-Products has been approved by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The cannon is a simulated grenade launcher and multi-use tool. The primary use: launching full 12-ounce soda cans 105 yards with Mil Standard Blanks.

The Can Cannon will now be available with a small design modification that makes it “not a firearm” in the eyes of the ATF.

“The Can Cannon has been officially acquitted by the BATF and is not considered a short barrel shotgun, short barrel rifle, or ‘any other weapon’ when installing it on an AR-15 lower receiver,” reads a statement from X-Products. “Our new design restores the Can Cannon back to the status of ‘not a firearm’ and ‘not a destructive device’ in the eyes of the law.”

“Stay tuned, we will be announcing a part swap program for our existing cannon customers shortly.”
