Colt Combat Unit Series 1911 Pistols Earn U.S. Special Forces Approval

Colt’s Manufacturing recently announced a new designation for one of it’s most iconic guns. Working with U.S. Special Operations trainers, the Colt Combat Unit Series (CCU) of 1911 pistols earned approval from U.S. warfighters.

The SOCOM trainers provided expertise vital in developing the CCU pistols, according to Colt. The variant handles and shoots with the highest levels of control, accuracy and reliability, according to Colt. The pistol comes available in three variants: CCU Government, Combat Unit Rail and Combat Unit CCO Commander.

Each model features a matte black DLC-coated stainless steel frame. It comes corrosion-resistant and EDC-friendly for civilian use. Custom G10 grips and 25 LPI checkering provide plenty of gripping surface. Meanwhile, an undercut trigger guard and upswept beavertail safety enable proper hand placement for accuracy and recoil control, according to Colt.

Each CCU variant comes in either .45 ACP or 9mm. The CCU Government model sports a 5-inch barrel; capacities run 8+1 in .45 ACP and 9+1 in 9mm. Combat Unit Rail models sport a Picatinny rail under the barrel. Combat Unit CCO pistols come in a Commander-length, 4.25-inch barrel and feature a capacity of 7+1 in .45 ACP and 9+1 in 9mm.

The Colt Combat Unit Series 1911 brings a lot of gun in .45 or 9mm.

Additionally, each CCU pistol features an ambidextrous, extended thumb safety. All pistols utilize front and rear angled slide serrations and extended magazines as well. Novak front and rear sights provide the sight picture. Colt’s Series 80 firing system and a National Match Barrel, along with a Colt Dual Spring Recoil System, round out this complete package.

Suggested retail prices start at $1,499. For even more info, please visit colt.com.

Editor’s Take:

We couldn’t be more happy to see further development coming out of Colt. Since the acquisition by Česká zbrojovka Group SE (CZG)–parent of CZ–last spring, it’s seemingly been full speed ahead. New leadership from a company firmly planted in both the shooting sports and military sales points to a bright future for one of America’s most iconic gun brands.
