Gun Control Group Wants Kroger to Ban Open Carry in Stores

Kroger — the largest supermarket chain (by revenue) in the United States — is getting pressure from gun control organization Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America to ban the practice of open carry in all of its nearly 2,500 stores.

According to the Huffington Post, the Bloomberg-backed gun control group decided to target Kroger as a response to demonstrations from open carry supporters at Kroger locations in Ohio and Texas.

This isn’t the first time Moms in Demand has pressured a large chain over their gun policies. As GunsSaveLives.net points out, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America has previously targeted Starbucks, Jack in the Box, Sonic, and Target. They’ve been utilizing social media to get their message across, circulating petitions and staging rallies at multiple retail locations. All of the aforementioned companies eventually asked their customers not to bring firearms into their establishments.

However, a Kroger spokesman said his company does not plan on changing its currently policy, which is in accordance with state and local laws.

“Millions of customers are present in our busy grocery stores every day and we don’t want to put our associates in a position of having to confront a customer who is legally carrying a gun,” Dailey said. “We know that our customers are passionate on both sides of this issue and we trust them to be responsible in our stores.”
