Hands On With Safariland Gravity Holster

August 7, 2025

Safariland’s foundation is built on comms, armor, and retention holsters geared toward law enforcement and military applications. The addition of the Bianchi brand and the launch of the Incog X lineup broadened out the brand’s expansion into the everyday carry market. But for those who want to be discreet but prefer the comfort of an OWB setup, consider the new Safariland Gravity holster.

Safariland Gravity Holster’s Features

The Safariland Gravity is an outside-the-waistband holster made of Safariland’s proprietary SafariLaminate and re-enforced with a nylon Cordura finish. The Cordura comes in eight different color schemes including grey, black, coyote, camo green, tiger stripe camo, M81 camo, and both green and black Multicam.

The Gravity is set up as a paddle holster for easy off/on without fumbling with a belt. The paddle comes in either a khaki or grey/black paddle, depending on what Cordura scheme you choose. The paddle is held in place with two bolts, one of which is relieved to allow the user to cant the holstered pistol forward ten degrees for better rearward retention. Sandwiched between the paddle and back of the holster is a belt retainer for added security on the draw.

In terms of fit, the Gravity features a low cut at the front of the holster for an optic and the holster seem is generous for higher-than-standard iron sights. Retention is guaranteed with a trigger guard lock that can be tightened or loosened by the tension screw that separates and brings together  the two ends of this single-piece holster.

Add-Ons & Fits

If a paddle holster is not up to taste, the Gravity is readily converted to a conventional belt holster with Safariland’s RGR-UBL low ride belt loop. For integrated use in a home or vehicle, the Gravity is also compatible with Safariland’s Quick Locking System Kit that serves as a hook and cradle for the holster on a fixed surface.

The Safariland Gravity is available in either left-handed or right-handed draw and is available for popular semi-automatic pistols from Glock, Shadow Systems, Sig Sauer, Springfield, Taurus, and Wilson Combat.

Field Impressions

I tapped the Safariland Gravity to house a new-to-me Glock 48 MOS chambered in 9mm. This long-gripped single-stack pistol is dandy for inside-the-waistband carry, but this lighter trimmer handgun is even more comfortable carrying in the field outside-the-waistband with the Gravity.

Out of box, the Gravity fits the G48 like a glove and it locked over the trigger guard as it is supposed to. All that was required was a turn of the tension screw to make sure the pistol could not fall free from the holster.

I intentionally ordered a standard G48 holster. Although I was worried the holster would not fit the optic-ready MOS model, the low cut of the holster offered no problems or interference with the standby Viridian RFX 15 test optic.

The Safariland Gravity excels as a paddle holster due to its lightweight construction and the inclusion of a belt stop. Unlike some cheaper options, the paddle and holster itself are not overly heavy, stiff, and bulky. It was not a problem to carry against the body at the 3 o’clock or 4 o’clock positions all day. The prominent belt stop drops anchor when the holster’s paddle loops over the belt. On the firing line, there is no superfluous movement on drawing and re-holstering.

The Safariland Gravity: A Good Utilitarian Option

The Safariland Gravity is a well-built rig that eliminates the chief issues of the paddle holster platform. It is both lightweight and doubly secure in both retention and on the draw. Whether you want a good all-around OWB holster or need a rig that is secure, yet able to come off at a moment’s notice, the Gravity is worth a hard look.
