You may recall back in October of 2024 when we announced the release of Kimber’s CDS9 double-stack micro-compact 9mm. The announcement was met with anticipation and excitement among the concealed carry crowd, and for good reason. However, the excitement was more than just idle chatter, as the little carry-friendly pistol also experienced great success. For this reason, Kimber has already updated the CDS9 with its new Classic series, offering a clean aesthetic and budget-friendly price point.
The Kimber CDS9 Classic Series
Representing the next generation of the KDS9c family, the CDS9 Classic Series builds on an aluminum frame with black/brushed or solid gray KimPro II finish. Featuring a mash-up of the 1911 and striker-fired platforms, the CDS9 Classic delivers reliable performance in an ergonomic package. As a result, it handles like a full-size pistol, while carrying like a micro-compact.
The grip panels are constructed of black injection-molded nylon with molded stippling for a positive engagement during courses of fire. Likewise, the mainspring features a stippled nylon housing to ensure solid retention. Delivering double-stack capacity, the grip accepts the included 13- and 15-round magazines, which help provide a full grip. However, 10-round magazines are also available for prohibitive states and enhanced concealment.

Housed within the trigger guard, with a high undercut, is the flat-faced trigger with a vertical break point. The trigger exhibits 1911 influence with a straight pull and classic trigger bow. According to Kimber, it delivers a solid wall and crisp brake. A noticeable difference between the original and the Classic is the absence of the Picatinny rail forward of the trigger guard.
Riding atop the frame is the stainless steel slide, with a fresh new look and KimPro II finish. Available in Standard or OR (optic-ready, RMSc footprint) models, the frame forgoes the fish-scale serrations of the original for more traditional serrations.

The OR model includes a Tag Fiber Lock front sight, while the Standard model features TruGlo Tritium Pro Night Sight with an orange front ring. Correspondingly, the rear sight on the OR model is mounted to the optic cover. However, the Standard has a TruGlo Tritium Pro rear Night Sight with white rear rings.
Rounds are delivered downrange via the 3.18-inch stainless steel barrel, chambered in 9mm. As with the original, all controls are fully ambidextrous.
