The Kimber Custom Shop equips the Micro CDP (LG) with a host of refined features like three-dot tritium night sights, an ambidextrous thumb safety, a Carry Melt treatment and Crimson Trace lasergrips so the Micro CDP (LG) is easier to aim in low-light situations after the draw. The CDP (LG) also features fine checkering on the front- and rear gripstrap for a more positive grip. A high-cut triggerguard also reduces muzzle flip. Of course, a model without the laser is also available.
The Micro 9 Stainless wears a non-reflective anodized finish on the aluminum frame and a matte stainless finish on the stainless steel slide to resist the elements and the user’s body sweat. Sporting checkered rosewood grips and a checkered mainspring housing, the Micro 9 Stainless offers users a well-textured grip to better enable fast follow-up shots. The solid aluminum, match-grade trigger is set by the factor to break at approximately 7 pounds.
The Micro RCP model from Kimber is designed with a smooth, snag-free exterior so it will not hang up on your clothing during the draw. The Micro RCP features a trench-cut sighting system, which is basically a groove milled into the top of the slide that replaces traditional front and rear iron sights. It also comes equipped with an ambidextrous thumb safety, vertical serrations on the mainspring housing and attractive checkered rosewood grips that offer plenty of control.
Taking a cue in terms of its finish from Kimber’s full-sized 1911s, the Micro 9 Two-Tone features a matte black slide and a matte stainless frame, giving the gun one of Kimber’s trademark 1911 treatments. The Micro 9 is also chambered in the more powerful 9mm and comes equipped with attractive checkered rosewood grip panels like other variants in the series. The pistol weighs less than a pound unloaded but offers properly proportioned sights for quick target acquisitions at close range.
An extended magazine is standard on the Micro Carry Advocate. This offers the user a slightly longer grip when shooting and adds an extra round to the gun’s overall capacity. The checkered G10 grips, available in either brown or purple, also aid in overall accuracy by allowing the shooter a positive grip in any environment. The Carry Advocate comes equipped with tritium three-dot night sights and features Kimber’s highly durable KimPro II finish.
The 9mm Micro 9 Crimson Carry starts with a Micro 9 Two-Tone design and adds a Crimson Trace Lasergrip. The laser and compact pistol are a good match since the laser allows a user to aim the Micro 9 in unconventional positions, like from under a vehicle when you have been attacked in a parking garage. The Micro 9 Crimson Carry also comes with iron sights for a reliable backup sighting option.
Elegant, refined and lethal if needed, the Micro Sapphire has a mirror-polished slide and blue PVD accents on its grip and controls. The slide is also engraved with elegant scroll work. The G10 grips feature a blue hue and ball-milled serrations. The Sapphire is made to impress and catch the eye, yet like all the other models in the Micro series, it is highly concealable and offers seven rounds of .380 ACP firepower.
The Bel Air provides a unique, eye-catching take on the Micro platform. The Micro Bel Air has a mirror-polished slide, mainspring housing, hammer, trigger and thumb safety. The frame wears a Bel Air blue KimPro II finish that is both durable and elegant. The smooth Micarta grips have the classic look of smooth ivory yet are more durable and won’t crack.
The Micro DC is all business with its all-black finish. It also has an extended magazine so the grip fits all average-sized hands. Your small finger will not be left dangling when you grip this Micro. Tritium night sights, an ambidextrous safety, a checkered mainspring housing and black cherry G10 grip panels enhance the Micro DC package for everyday carry.
I’ve always liked the Raptor’s aesthetics with its scaled zebrawood grips as well as its scalloped slide top, rear gripstrap and slide serrations. The Micro Raptor has all of the distinctive features of the full-sized 1911, plus tritium three-dot night sights and an ambidextrous thumb safety. The Raptor may be good looking, but it’s built to deliver real-world results.
Size does matter, and the Kimber Micro series of handguns offers a compact design chambered in potent calibers. These mighty Kimber Micros, chambered in .380 ACP and now 9mm, are easy to conceal for everyday carry, no matter what body type you currently have.
The Micro is set up like a 1911, and as the name implies, the series is micro sized. If you are familiar with the 1911 platform, then the transition to a Kimber Micro will be a smooth one since the controls and ergonomics are very similar to a 1911. The thumb safety, slide release and magazine release are just like those in the 1911 design. What’s more, the single-action trigger on each Micro pistol is crisp and easy to master.
What made the Kimber Micros stand out from other .380 ACP pistols upon its original release in 2012 was that its pistols were constructed entirely of metal and featured a single-action trigger system. They also were equipped with full-sized steel sights so aiming the Micros was more user friendly. Another important feature was their ease of operation. The recoil spring is typically very stiff on a .380 ACP pistol, so stiff in fact that some small pistols require a lot of hand strength to manipulate the slide. The Micro series, however, offers plenty of grasping area and doesn’t require a lot of muscle to operate. The Micro series also offered mild recoil even with the hottest .380 ACP factory loads and good accuracy for a compact pistol. At typical confrontation distances, the Kimber Micros can be real tack drivers.
In 2015, Kimber upped the caliber ante with its 9mm Micro 9 Series. The new Micro 9 is about 10 percent larger than the .380 ACP models while maintaining the same 1911-style controls and functionality. The Micro 9 barrel and slide are constructed from stainless steel while the frame is made from aluminum, both of which offer integrity and strength with less weight. Just like the full-sized 1911s Kimber manufactures, the Micro and Micro 9 guns feature a lowered and flared ejection port for better case ejection and a beveled magazine well for faster loading.
Here are 10 examples of Kimber’s ultra-compact Micro and Micro 9 pistols, which are made for concealed carry.
