Building on Excellence – Leupold VX-5HD Gen 2

August 5, 2025

I believe that the most critical part of your rifle setup is the optic. You may have a super ninja rifle, but if your optic isn’t up to the task, you are carrying an expensive paperweight. A company that has excelled in this arena is Leupold & Stevens. This is especially true in the hunting arena. They have been a provider of the world’s most rugged, lightweight, and clear sport optics for 118 years. Today, they have announced the launch of their new VX-5HD Gen 2 family of riflescopes.

Versatility in its DNA – The Leupold VX-5HD Gen 2

It only takes one—one that does it all. When you’re far from camp and seconds from your shot, you need a scope that’ll never let you down. The VX-5HD Gen 2 features Leupold’s Professional-Grade Optical System. It delivers the absolute precision serious hunters demand. With a SpeedSet elevation dial for quick, tool-free zeroing, competition-grade adjustments, a redesigned main tube for increased elevation travel, an integrated throw lever, and ultra-rugged construction, the VX-5HD Gen 2 is the ideal hunting optic.

“The VX-5HD line has been the greatest value in riflescopes since the moment we introduced it. It outperforms everything in its class,” said Tim Lesser, Vice President of Product Development and Marketing for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “But our team never quits innovating. The new VX-5HD Gen 2 still has everything that made it one of our most popular scopes. Additionally, it is adding several new features and enhancements hunters will appreciate.”

The VX-5HD Gen 2 is built around Leupold’s Professional-Grade Optical System, which delivers class-leading light transmission, glare reduction, and resolution. Guard-Ion lens coatings shed dirt and water for edge-to-edge clarity. Its incredible optical performance includes new competition-grade precision adjustments. These mirror the award-winning aspects that define Leupold’s Mark series of riflescopes. As a result, VX-5HD Gen 2 delivers repeatable accuracy and precision.

Leupold has been serving hunters for decades.

With the next evolution, the VX-5HD Gen 2 adds Leupold’s innovative SpeedSet elevation dial. This design eliminates the need for tools when zeroing or changing custom dials. By lifting the lever on the SpeedSet dial, hunters can reset the zero on their elevation dial without needing tools. The new dial features Leupold’s push-button ZeroLock system, which prevents accidental dial movement. Every VX-5HD Gen 2 scope is eligible for one free custom dial. This matches your exact load, muzzle velocity, and environmental conditions. Leupold’s CDS system compensates for bullet drop. It helps hunters make ultra-quick elevation adjustments on the fly. Additional dials are available for a nominal fee.

The Leupold VX-5HD Gen 2 can be customized.

“Whether you’re having a hard time seeing your target, got lost in your dope, or were simply slow to adjust and missed your opportunity, the result is the same. A miss is a miss,” said Vici Peters, Gold Ring Product Line Manager for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “The VX-5HD Gen 2 is built for hunters who demand precision and performance–hunters who don’t leave things to chance. The CDS dial system is a key part of that. With just a few pieces of information, almost all available on the back of any box of ammunition, we can make dialing for distance incredibly simple.”
