However, with the new MasterPiece Arms DS9 Commander, it might be time to have our little talk again.
The MasterPiece Arms DS9 Commander
The components of the DS9 Commander are machined in the USA from Barstock and Billet. In addition, keeping the pistol clean and pristine, the parts include no MIM, castings or forgings. The parts machined by MPA (MasterPiece Arms) include the light rail frame, TriTop slide, 4.25-inch MPA 416R stainless bull barrel, stainless beavertail/grip safety, stainless ambidextrous safety, stainless slide stop, firing pin stop, ejector, carry magwell and 7075 black anodized aluminum grip.
The DS9 Commander is a cornucopia of customization, beginning with a Koenig hammer, sear and disconnector for reliable, consistent action. Likewise, Wolff springs ensure a dependably long life. A custom machined flat faced aluminum trigger shoe releases the hammer with a 3.5-pound trigger pull. Although the Commander ships with a 3 lbs. 6oz – 2 lbs. 10 oz. trigger pull, it will relax to 3 pounds after break in. However, heavier pull weights are available.
The TriTop slide features forward and rear serrations, with stepped inset, for enhanced manipulation—even under duress or adverse conditions. Correspondingly, riding atop the slide are modular iron sights, with the front sight containing fiber-optics for low light conditions. However, for those who prefer optics, the slide is optics ready for Vortex, Trijicon, Leupold and C-More.
The grip features machined texturing around its extremities for additional control, while a beavertail grip safety prevents firing until it is in the hand. Similarly, an ambidextrous secondary safety provides full control for right- or left-hand shooters. In addition, the Commander has a MPA Carry Magwell for easy insertion of the double-stack magazine. Just forward of the trigger guard is a two-slot picatinny rail for additional light/optic options.
Each Commander is hand-built, including hand lapping the frame to slide fit and includes two 126mm MBV magazines. The entire package arrives in a custom MPA single pistol case.
