The Ruger LCP MAX, introduced in June 2021, is the third generation of Ruger’s famed LCP .380 pocket pistol line. It followed the original LCP (2008) and LCP II (2016), bringing a significant leap in firepower with a double-stack magazine design. The capacity jumped from 6+1 and 7+1 to 10+1 standard, or 12+1 with an extended magazine. All of this while maintaining a compact, pocket-friendly footprint. Today, Ruger is announcing the LCP MAX with a manual safety.

The Popular Ruger LCP MAX is Now Available With a Manual Safety
Ruger has introduced two new manual safety models of the LCP MAX. Both models, identified as 13749 and 13754, come with an easy-to-use manual safety located on the left side of the frame. In addition, model 13754 includes a magazine disconnect and a loaded chamber indicator on the top of the slide, allowing users to visually confirm whether the chamber is loaded or empty.
Both pistols showcase a matte stainless steel slide with polished sides, resulting in crisp cocking serrations. The textured grip frame ensures a secure and comfortable hold. The tritium front sight, accented with a white outline, allows for quick target acquisition in various lighting conditions. Additionally, the rear sight features a generous U-notch for easy alignment and a square front face that enables one-handed cocking. The sight dovetails are designed to accommodate aftermarket Bodyguard-pattern sights.
Improved Feed Lips
LCP MAX pistols feature improved magazine feed lips, feed ramp, extractor, and barrel cam geometries. The patented barrel cam geometry delays unlocking to slow the slide and ultimately reduce felt recoil compared to other 380 Auto pistols. Both models utilize Ruger’s safe, reliable, and proven Secure Action fire-control system. This system combines a protected internal hammer with a bladed safety trigger. This internal hammer-fired, single-action system combines a long, deliberate pull with a clean break and short reset.
The trigger has a short, smooth pull, a clean break, and a positive reset. These models have a reversible magazine release. Additionally, both models ship with one 10-round magazine, a soft pocket holster, and a magazine loader.
Lightweight
At just 10.6 oz unloaded, with a length of 5.17 inches, a width of around 0.81–0.94 inches, and a height of approximately 4.12 inches, the LCP MAX keeps true to the subcompact ethos of the LCP lineup yet offers increased grip real estate. It is constructed with a glass-filled nylon frame with an embedded aluminum chassis. This is paired with an alloy-steel slide featuring raised serrated “ears” for easier rack control. Furthermore, all surfaces are rounded for comfortable concealment.

Micro-textured panels enhance the front and back straps for better grip. The 10-round magazine sits flush, but adding the recessed pinky extension or the full 12-round magazine provides extra surface area for those with larger hands. The reversible magazine release and small slide stop contribute to a minimalist yet functional design. With its “stack-and-a-half” configuration, the LCP MAX achieves high capacity without significantly increasing grip width, a smart feature seen in many modern micro-capacity pistols. Ruger engineered the cam system to delay unlocking and slow slide velocity, effectively reducing recoil harshness compared to other .380 autos. Compact and lightweight, the LCP MAX stands out as the go-to pocket-sized personal protection pistol.
