A suppressor represents a solid investment. That’s a straightforward fact. Although costs have decreased, navigating the federal process is both time-consuming and costly. When we finally receive our suppressor, we want it to last as a long-term addition to our gear. Rugged Suppressors embraces this philosophy, as reflected in their name. Founded in 2014 by Henry Graham and Michael Derdziak, the company focuses on producing innovative, high-quality firearm suppressors. They take pride in pioneering new materials and manufacturing techniques to deliver superior products that perform reliably from the very first use. Among their standout offerings is the Rugged SurgeX.
Belt Fed Durability – The Rugged SurgeX
The Rugged SurgeX offers a modular .30-caliber suppressor built for durability, versatility, and performance. It enhances the foundation laid by the original Surge762, introducing improvements in materials, mounting compatibility, and user-configurable options. The suppressor utilizes 17-4 PH stainless steel and Cobalt 6, which ensure robustness and longevity. Its modular design allows users to configure the suppressor in two lengths: a compact 5.6-inch setup that optimizes reduced gas blowback and an extended 8.1-inch configuration for maximum sound suppression. This adaptability allows it to excel in various shooting scenarios, from tactical operations to hunting applications.

Lightweight Suppressor
Weighing only 11.7 ounces in its short form and 16.2 ounces in the long configuration, the SurgeX is 28% lighter than its older brother, the Surge762. The suppressor’s diameter stands at 1.55 inches, and it sports a high-temperature Cerakote finish for added durability.
A significant advancement in the SurgeX is its adoption of the 1.375×24 “HUB” threading, which enhances its compatibility with a wide range of mounting systems. It comes equipped with Rugged’s Universal Mount (R.U.M.), which integrates its Dual Taper Locking System. This system ensures a secure, concentric lock-up, minimizing point-of-impact shifts and holding accuracy. The R.U.M. also features a go/no-go gauge to assist users in achieving proper installation.
The SurgeX is rated for calibers up to .300 Remington Ultra Magnum. It is also full auto rated—and not just full auto rated, but belt fed rated. It does this without any barrel length restrictions. In testing scenarios, the suppressor demonstrated minimal point-of-impact shift, approximately 2 MOA, and maintained sub-MOA groupings with and without the attached suppressor.

In practice, the SurgeX performs as described. It did a good job of keeping the crack down in both the long and short configuration. It also has an exceptional tone, making it even more shooter-friendly. When I put it in and took it off the rifle, I only experienced a minimal point of impact shift. This is a solid point for people who look to hunt with this can.
Rugged Suppressors’ President, Henry Graham, stated, “Ten years ago, we launched Rugged Suppressors with the Surge762™. We have spent the last decade dedicated to innovating and creating exciting products for our customers. The SurgeX is a testament to our commitment to improving upon our quietest and most durable suppressor.”

Rugged SurgeX
“The SurgeX is made in-house with US materials, as are all Rugged Suppressors. This allows us meticulous control over every stage of production, from raw material selection to final assembly – ensuring that stringent quality standards are met,” added Michael Derdziak, Rugged Suppressors’ CEO.
Rugged Suppressors SurgeX stands out as a robust can. Its modular design, durable construction, and compatibility with various mounting systems make it a good choice for a variety of applications. While arguments about dB ratings and duo plutonium-like material will continue, the SurgeX is a bomb-proof, solid performer.
