At the 2024 SHOT Show it was a banner year for lever action rifles. As it stands right now, this year is also going to be another lever-gun bonanza. A couple of these rifles were out last year, but did not make it to production stage. So, they are “new” again this year. Of course, I will only be covering those firearms and related gear that are legal for Western Action Shooting. For SHOT 2025 there are some 2,800 exhibitors and more than 830,000 net square feet of exhibit space. It was a big job, but I covered every aisle to make sure I didn’t miss any guns, ammo or gear that would be of interest to western action shooters. Pietta USA is making a “Old Silver” finished “Union” version of the Colt Model 1851 Navy commemorating the Battle of Gettysburg. On the sides of the 7.5-inch barrel are banners with quotes from Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and back by the barrel wedge assembly, on both sides, are crossed CSA and USA flags. The cylinder is engraved with a Civil War battle scene and between the bolt locking notches are 5-pointed stars. On the front of the frame is a banner on each side with “CS 1861-1865 US,” then above the trigger is crossed sabers, with crossed bugles on the other side. This SA sixgun replicates gun writer John Taffin’s Perfect Packing Pistol (PPP). It’s made of stainless-steel, has the Bisley-style grip-frame, hammer and trigger, and its walnut stocks are from Tyler Gunworks. Taurus Deputy Sixgun
Taurus has re-entered the SA six-shooter market with the Deputy. It resembles the Colt SAA in looks and dimensions, but differs from the original with an internal transfer-bar safety. You do get the traditional “four clicks” as you bring the hammer back to full-cock. It’s available with either a 4.75 or 5.5-inch barrel, in .357 Magnum/.38 Spl. or .45 Colt. Reminiscent of the shotgun Wyatt Earp used on his “Vengeance Ride,” this double-gun in 12 ga. has 3” chambers, and 20” barrels. The barrels bores are chrome-lined, have a shell extractor, and a raised center-rib, with a bead front sight. Finish on the barrels and trigger guard are a deep blue.
