An armed robber in Corpus Christi, Texas got more than he bargained for last week when he targeted a homeowner who happened to be carrying a handgun.

KRIS 6 News reports that an elderly couple had just pulled up to their house located on the 1300 block of Calle San Marcos after going out shopping when they were suddenly approached by a man with a gun in their driveway.

The suspect demanded the homeowner, a 69-year-old Vietnam veteran who is hard of hearing, hand over his wallet. Once the homeowner realized what was happening, he took action to protect himself and his wife. He drew his handgun and shot the suspect twice — once in the stomach and once in the back. He then held the suspect on the ground at gunpoint until police arrived.
