After making their way to the 5200-block of West Ohio Street, the officers observed two men sitting on a porch in front of a house. When they walked up to the men and started asking about the possible shooting, one of the men bolted from the scene.\n
Chase<\/h3>\nThe body camera footage above, which also captures both officers' point-of-view, shows a foot chase down a side alley.\n\n\"Waistband! Waistband!\" one officer can be heard yelling after he sees the suspect's gun.\n\nThe suspect then falls to the ground as the officer tells him to put up his hands. The suspect ignores that order, instead getting back up.\n\n\"He's got it in his hand!\" the officer yells out, referring to the gun.\n
Chicago Police Shooting<\/h3>\nThat's when another officer coming from a different direction discharges his duty gun three times. The suspect, later identified as Juan Mendez, drops to the ground.\n\n\"Dude, he was pointing it at me,\" the officer who pulled the trigger says after being asked if he shot Mendez.\n\nMendez's gun is clearly visible on the ground next to him as other officers place him in handcuffs.\n\n\"Why would you shoot me, sir?\" Mendez asks while laying on the ground.\n\nPolice later said<\/a> Mendez was critically injured, but ultimately survived. He was charged with assaulting an officer.\n\nThe officers involved were placed on routine administrative leave for 30 days. LAPD Shooting<\/h3>\nOn June 9 at around 11:45 p.m., officers responded<\/a> to a call of a stabbing at an apartment in the city's Lincoln Heights neighborhood. Upon arrival, they discovered the apartment was guarded by a metal security door. While waiting for breaching tools, they observed the suspect\u201422-year-old Victor Arroyo\u2014armed with a knife and a screwdriver, and fighting with his father.\n\nArroyo fled to a back room while his father let the officers in. His father remained inside and followed him to the back room.\n\nThe officers, arming themselves with a less-lethal bean bag shotgun in addition to their duty guns, moved through the house. When they came to the back room, they saw Arroyo and his father fighting for the knife and screwdriver.\n\nAfter repeatedly telling Arroyo to drop the weapons, one of the officers fired several rounds from his less-lethal shotgun. The rounds hit Arroyo and push him back slightly, but they had little overall effect.\n\nArroyo then charged at his father while making slashing motions with the knife. That's when a second officer discharged his duty gun. Arroyo was shot once in the shoulder and dropped to the ground.\n
Injuries & Charges<\/h3>\nThe officers recovered the weapons used by Arroyo, who was transported to an area hospital for treatment. LAPD Shooting<\/h3>\nOn June 9 at around 11:45 p.m., officers responded<\/a> to a call of a stabbing at an apartment in the city's Lincoln Heights neighborhood. Upon arrival, they discovered the apartment was guarded by a metal security door. While waiting for breaching tools, they observed the suspect\u201422-year-old Victor Arroyo\u2014armed with a knife and a screwdriver, and fighting with his father.\n\nArroyo fled to a back room while his father let the officers in. His father remained inside and followed him to the back room.\n\nThe officers, arming themselves with a less-lethal bean bag shotgun in addition to their duty guns, moved through the house. When they came to the back room, they saw Arroyo and his father fighting for the knife and screwdriver.\n\nAfter repeatedly telling Arroyo to drop the weapons, one of the officers fired several rounds from his less-lethal shotgun. The rounds hit Arroyo and push him back slightly, but they had little overall effect.\n\nArroyo then charged at his father while making slashing motions with the knife. That's when a second officer discharged his duty gun. Arroyo was shot once in the shoulder and dropped to the ground.\n
Injuries & Charges<\/h3>\nThe officers recovered the weapons used by Arroyo, who was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
