Also known as the Tueller Drill, the 21-foot rule comes from an article from years ago. In it, a Salt Lake City police officer Dennis Tueller asked how close is too close when facing an attacker with a knife? He determined that most bad guys can cover 21 feet in 1.5 seconds. So, to defeat an attacker with a knife, blunt object or even sword, a shooter must draw and fire accurately in 1.5 seconds. Or if they do, they don't do it very well. One would think an armed robber would plan a heist, but it never seems to happen. Case in point is a robber in Ohio who gets caught on video climbing into drive-through window of a convenience store. A clerk sent him back out with a gunshot.

[in_content post="95116" alignment="align-left" /]

WFMJ reports the incident happened June 24 in Warren at a Pit Stop just before midnight. Employees were getting ready to close, when a man tried to climb through the drive-through window. Video surveillance shows a man dressed in black with a mask walk up to window and force it open. He then pulls a gun from his waistband and begins climbing through the window.

A clerk inside sees the suspect and grabs a gun kept under the register. He quickly racks the slide and proceeds to pie the window, and even sends a round in the general direction of the suspect. General direction because the time codes shows the suspect took off the moment he saw the clerk, and was nowhere near the window when the clerk fired. Police brought in a K9 unit to track the suspect, but were unsuccessful. Employees believe the suspect thought the store had already closed, which is why he tried to enter through the window instead of the front door.
I’m all for progress when it comes to science, technology, medicine, etc. But can we just agree that many of the progressive ideas of today are a complete failure? Nothing good is coming from any of their ideas. Defunding the police is an unmitigated disaster. Open borders—I think we all see where that is going. Gun control is also a total failure. Analysis of Off-Duty Cop, and the Robber

Now the above video shows what happened inside the store. However, there is other video that reveals more, including the incompetence of the robber. It is obvious that the robber hadn't studied his target. In fact, he might have never even entered the store before, as he had difficulty even getting through the door.

The video also shows the security guard meeting aggression with overwhelming force, which could be called for in this situation. However, he might want to work on accuracy. While the shots injured no one but the assailant, several customers were near the robber. Also, several shots missed and went through the front windows. In this case, the good guy won, but he might want to be a little more careful in the future.

Spokane Store Owner Not the Only Business

Store owners have long used firearms to protect their businesses. However, QuikTrip has completely put this theory to test. The company denies this. Instead, QuikTrip is looking to hire full-time security, rather than contracting off-duty police. However, it looks like the company might let some other employees, those with the proper licenses and previous experience.

It is pretty obviously that this program will work. Criminals are much more likely to target a store without security. As such, QuikTrip has probably made a good decision, if the company can fill all of the positions.
;

She, however, had a gun, which she pulled and used to sent the suspect fleeing with a shot.

[in_content post="111657" alignment="align-left" /]

The suspect, who the Richland County Sheriff’s Department identified as Anthony James Summers, caught the woman unaware at the end of the night on June 3. When he came up, she dropped her belongings. When he grabbed the items, she pulled her gun, forcing him to flee as she fired a shot. Unfortunately, he got away, according to WLTX.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is now asking for the public's help in finding the suspect. The describe him as 6 foot, 1 inches tall, weighing around 170 pounds.

South Carolina Restaurant Manager Needs Better Awareness

Surprise is a great tactic, which is why situational awareness is so important. Anything that provides an advantage, even a few seconds, should be used. Being aware of one's surroundings can often provide an advantage.

Staying aware must be constantly practiced until it is second nature. Col. Jeff Cooper developed a color code to teach awareness, covering every level from completely unaware (Condition White) to ready to fight (Condition Red). Except when asleep, experts recommend staying in Condition Yellow, which stands for relaxed awareness. In this condition, people are paying attention to what is happening around them. This includes people, as well as escape routes and potential cover. The mind should be constantly figuring ways to get away and fight, if necessary.

Another way to obtain an advantage over an assailant is by turning his or her attention to something else. That is what this manager did, either on purpose or accident. A robber wants what you have, so dropping, or throwing, a purse, wallet or other item can provide the needed time to fight back. Always stay aware, but if a situation does happen, look for anything that might provide an advantage over an attacker.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue[/embed]

=1&v=xki6ptcUg5c

In another example of anti-gun mania, an Oregon store clerk is looking for a new job because he stopped a hatchet-wielding robber with a gun. And he did so without even firing a shot. He just faced the robber down and sent him packing.

[in_content post="95974" alignment="align-left" /]

The incident was actually caught on surveillance video late last month. The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office recently released the video in hopes of identifying the suspect.

“We’d like to reunite you with the hatchet you left behind after the clerk responded with a handgun and a 911 call and you fled the scene,” Sgt. Marcus Mendoza said in a news release.

The video shows a man in khaki pants and a dark sweatshirt walking past the store entrance before coming back. The face is covered. He then enters the store, walks up and lays a hatchet on the counter. That's when the clerk casually pulls out a gun and aims it at the robber. The clerk then picks up the phone to call police. The robber, meanwhile, watches the scene unfold before pushing the hatchet across the counter and putting his hands up. He even gets down on his knees and almost seems to break down. That's when, according to KOIN, the suspect supposedly said, "I'm sorry. I'll leave." The suspect then fled on foot. Police have not been able to find or even identify the suspect, which is why they released the video.

Company Wanted Oregon Store Clerk to De-Escalate Situation

Not long after this incident happened, Plaid Pantry, company that owns the store, fired the clerk, citing a zero tolerance for weapons. The company claims it trains its employees to de-escalate robbery situations. The company seems to believe this is the best way to prevent injuries to employees.

This situation, however, de-escalated pretty quickly, right about a good guy produced a gun. The incident also produced zero injuries, despite the fact the store clerk probably would have been justified to pull the trigger.

The clerk stayed calm, knowing gun trumps hatchet, and called the police to handle the situation. However, he was prepared to handle the situation if the robber had been more determined.
Which U.S. cities are getting more dangerous over time? Which are getting safer? The team at YLS (yourlocalsecurity.com) tracked down FBI crime trends from 2006 to 2016 to determine which U.S. cities have seen the sharpest increases and decreases in crime over the past 10 years. Seven categories were included: Murder, robbery, assault, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft and arson. Cities were then ranked based on their average numbers across the seven types of crime. Here’s how things broke down in regard to the safest cities in the U.S., where folks might want to learn more about the ways of self defense.

[in_content post="38634" alignment="align-right" /]

25 Cities Getting More Dangerous

These 25 cities have seen more crimes of all types over the past decade. Charleston, West Virginia, tops the list with double the arson counts from 2006 to 2016, even with a population decrease. In fact, nine of the bottom 25 cities have had a decrease in population, which means their crimes per capita have increased all the more dramatically.

25 Cities Getting Safer

These cities experienced the greatest decrease in criminal activity for the six types of crime YLS measured. The city with the most improvement from 2006 to 2016 is Salisbury, Maryland. It improved substantially in several areas, including a 100-percent decrease in arson and a 63-percent decrease in burglary.

Alabama Concealed Carrier Awaited Opportunity

While many gun owners like to believe that they would instantly fight back in a situation, it is often better to await an opportunity. In fact, compliance can often be the safest method, but this requires some understanding of bad folks and their intentions. You might as well fight back if you believe the robber is going to shoot anyway. However, if you're going to fight back, it is usually best to wait until the opportune moment to act. This, of course, is what the Alabama man did. He probably figured that the female suspect was less likely to pull the trigger. So, when the male suspect shifted his gun, the son drew and fired.

This could even have been semi-planned on part of the mother and son. The mother could have said something to draw attention off the son to give him opportunity. This is actually something that family members should consider. It is never a bad idea to have a few basic plans just in case a bad situation happens.
;

It is never a bad idea to have a few basic plans just in case a bad situation happens.
;

Ohio Clerk Has Decent Moves

While video shows that the shot was unnecessary, this clerk handled this situation quite well. His situational awareness quickly picked up on the danger, and he didn't panic. He quickly and confidently headed to where the gun was stored. Of course, racking the slide gets into a different discussion on keeping one in the chamber, but it doesn't take away from his skills; it might be the owner's or manager's gun.

In any case, watch how this clerk stays back and quickly pies the window. This is standard training for covering corners, doors and windows. Makes one think this clerk has had some training, but not too much considering the move across the window. The shot can be explained as nerves and the illusions of darkness. He saw something that made him think he needed to fire.
As a South Carolina restaurant manager closed up, a man startled her with a robbery attempt.
